Free CGI & Java for your Website
Here are some useful links if you should want to experiment with CGI or Java. This is a little more complicated than learning to write in HTML, so unless you have a pressing need for something that can only be accomplished with CGI or Java, I sugges you set up the rest of your website first and save this for last.
CGI stands for Common Gateway Interface, and it allows you to have programs that write to files. Counters, chatrooms, voting booths, and everything else like that is CGI.

Matt's Script Archive The infamous CGI archive. Almost everyone knows about it by now, but I will describe it. Matt does some programming and has invented several great scripts like formail, and some messaging CGI program. He has a large handful of good, useful scripts, written in both Perl, and C/C++.
Java can make almost anyones page fancy. However, there are some disadvantages to it. Only browsers using the newer versions of Netscape or Internet Explorer (and maybe some of the other browsers) will be able to view your Java.
Cut-N-Paste JavaScript This site has lots of javascripts, even a few perl scripts as well. There's seriously a ton of useful stuff here. And they do it by months, so every month there is different stuff. Just be sure if you see something interesting, you grab it before it's removed.. You can use their user friendly javascript to browse the different javascripts, or they have a search set up for your convenience..

Sun's Java applets Nearly always reliable, a good collection of useful Java applets.
